STEEL SHEETS CUT TO LENGTH IN CORTEN®-TYPE STEEL (S355J0WP – S355J2W – cold rolled Corten®-type)

WEATHERING STEEL: S355J0WP, S355J2W and their cold rolled, CORTEN®A-type counterparts Arcorf and Docol355W: the many applications of steel sheets with enhanced resistance to corrosion caused by atmospheric events.

Sheets in CORTEN®-type steel, cut to length by Sidastico from hot rolled coils in grades S355J0WP and S355J2W and from cold rolled coils in grades Corten-A, Arcorf and Docol355W, have always been a veritable staples upon which the company’s reputation as a leading steel service centre in European and extra-European markets was built.

The ability of grades S355J0WP, S355J2W and of the other CORTEN®-type qualities to develop a self-protecting patina when exposed to repeated cycles of wet and dry weather is the peculiar characteristic that distinguishes this very special category of steel from any other carbon steel grade.

So, thanks to their chemical composition and to the appropriate percentages of chromium, copper and phosphorus, S355J0WP and S355J2W can withstand atmospheric corrosion up to 4 to 8 times longer than common carbon steel.

The early formation of a compact and passive superficial patina prevents the progression of the corrosion that standard structural steels undergo when exposed unprotected to atmospheric events.

The formation of the protective patina can be compromised and made uneven/unstable by the exposure to the saline atmosphere and saline spray typical of coastal areas. Also, the presence of chlorides prevents and/or damages the formation of the protective film as much as the application of waxes and varnishes can inhibit the passivating process of CORTEN® .

CORTEN®-type sheets in S355J0WP, S355J2W, Arcorf and Docol355W are widely used in the most diverse fields of application such as façades and other architectural works, in pieces of art and of carpentry of all kinds, intended for a lifetime in open air.

In decades of successful sales, the Quality Department and the Sales Specialists of Sidastico have developed quite an experience in weathering steel applications and are at the complete disposal of all customers, architects and engineers for any kind of information regarding CORTEN®-type sheets.

At the same time, Sidastico is  constantly looking for new applications and new markets which can profit and thrive on the peculiar and fascinating characteristics of steel sheets in hot rolled grades S55J0WP, S355J2W and cold rolled CORTEN-A®, Arcorf, Docol355W.
