Sidastico® and a new era: a high-tech steel future

With over forty years of experience, the company from Fara Vicentino continues to grow and develop: a combination of tradition and innovation.

As it moves towards the Vicenza plain, the water of the Astico river flows past various companies that characterise the Altovicentino area as one of the liveliest and most thriving industrial poles in Italy, companies born from stories of inventiveness and dedication to work. The name of one in particular stands out in Fara Vicentino: Sidastico, a company that has been able to transform its passion for steel into a success story right at the advent of the new millennium.

It was in 1980 that Silvio Chilò, realizing that service reliability could make all the difference in the complex metalworking sector, set up a nimble steel service centre called Siderurgica Astico, right on the banks where the river meets the plain.
His successful philosophy, which has never changed over time, allowed the company – highly focused on the customised cutting of hot laminated coils – first to establish itself, and then to gradually strengthen on the Italian and international markets.

It was a compelling journey made up of daring investments, but also of happy and wise generational transitions, first with Domenico Mauro – now President of the company – who succeeded his father Silvio, and today with his son Davide, who in the role of Managing Director embodies the third generation of Chilò family entrepreneurs.
In 2023, Sidastico is a well-established reality (turnover +150 million euros), yet one that is constantly evolving, driven by the desire to grow, and characterised by continuous technological research. The substantial recent investments, which have led to the doubling of the plant and a major eco-sustainable production expansion, are the most visible and evident proof of the company’s bustling activity in the Altovicentino area.

But inside the company walls is where you can savour the combination of experience and technical innovation which, in over forty years of history, has turned Sidastico into a major company that is extremely proud of its advanced technical and production expertise. The company, by combining this important competitive plus with its great capabilities, experience, and state-of-the-art services, has become a reference point for the biggest names in the steel industry.

Sidastico’s undisputed forte is its wide variety of products in stock, which means that the company can meet almost any type of requirement for special carbon steel sheets, cut to length just-in-time from hot-rolled coils in Corten®, High Resistance Steel, Steel for pressurised compartments, Low Alloyed Steel, Boron alloyed quenched and tempered Steel, Structural Steel, all of which are constantly available. “The extraordinary commitment that we have always invested in stocking,” explains the president, Domenico Mauro Chilò, “is what has made it possible for us to achieve record results in recent years, despite the pandemic and the sometimes dramatic dynamics of the steel industry.
An important and well-stocked warehouse means we can quickly satisfy the most demanding customer requirements, and is a guarantee of success in a world where responsiveness is becoming increasingly important.”

Sidastico has three lines for steel sheet levelling and customised cutting, marking, trimming and brushing. To provide its customers with the highest quality service, the company dedicates significant resources to the continuous selection of the best hot coil suppliers so it can offer a top-quality product to an increasingly demanding clientele.
“Sidastico’s reputation has allowed us to develop partnerships with the world’s most important steel mills in order to offer increasingly highperformance, innovative qualities,” explains Managing Director Davide Chilò. “Stability in supplies, a constant presence on the market, and a trust that is transmitted from the beginning to the end of the supply chain.”

The company has recently provided selected customers with the possibility of directly monitoring the status of their orders via the www.sidastico.com website, yet the company’s investments in business intelligence and the innovation of management systems to guarantee precise control of all company flows are significant and continuous. “New technologies,” says the Chilò family, “guarantee precision, efficiency, flexibility and security levels that were once unimaginable. Investing in these areas gives better reactivity at every stage of the process, to respond to a market whose needs are constantly changing.”

Sidastico pays particular attention to environmental protection and eco-sustainability. The company in Fara Vicentino is powered by solar energy generated by a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system covering an area of almost 12,750 m² with a maximum yield of 1,680,000 kWh/year. Sidastico’s by-products and processing waste are 100 per cent recycled, further reducing the company’s environmental footprint and expanding its ecological sustainability even further.

The Sidastico brand is registered in the European Community and in 23 other countries. The export sales quota now covers half of the turnover, and this is also due to a logistics service that can deliver the product to most of the countries in Europe, North Africa, the Arab countries and the Middle East, to customers who have understood that success begins at the beginning of the chain with the choice of a reliable and accurate partner capable of supplying the best companies in the world with “Sidastico quality steels”.
